Quick Mediterranean Beef Farfalle Pasta Recipe

Farfalle with Ground Beef, Marzano Tomatoes & Capers

Make this easy Farfalle with Ground Beef, Marzano Tomatoes, and Capers in just 30 minutes. This flavorful Mediterranean-inspired pasta recipe combines tender ground beef, sweet Marzano tomatoes, briny capers, red onion, and extra virgin olive oil for a rich homemade tomato sauce the whole family will love.

There are recipes that don’t need to be complicated to become family favorites. This Farfalle with Ground Beef is one of those dishes. It’s simple, comforting, full of flavor, and easy enough to make on a busy weeknight.

The secret is in the ingredients. Sweet Marzano tomatoes create a rich and naturally balanced tomato sauce, while ground beef adds heartiness and depth. Capers bring a delicious salty, briny flavor that cuts through the richness of the sauce, and slowly sautéed red onion adds a subtle sweetness.

Everything comes together with extra virgin olive oil and Mediterranean herbs, creating a homemade pasta sauce that tastes like it has been simmering all day.

Why Marzano Tomatoes Make This Pasta So Good

The tomatoes are the heart of this recipe. Marzano tomatoes have a naturally sweet flavor and delicate acidity, making them ideal for a simple homemade tomato sauce.

Instead of relying on a complicated list of ingredients, this recipe lets the tomatoes do most of the work. Combined with browned ground beef, red onion, capers, olive oil, and herbs, they create a flavorful sauce that coats every piece of pasta.

Why I Love Farfalle Pasta

Farfalle, also known as bow-tie pasta, is one of my favorite pasta shapes for this type of sauce. Its pinched center and wider edges hold onto the tomato and beef sauce, giving you plenty of flavor in every bite.

You can certainly use another pasta shape if that’s what you have in your pantry, but farfalle makes this dish especially satisfying.

A Simple 30-Minute Pasta Dinner

One of the best things about this easy farfalle pasta recipe is how quickly it comes together.

While the pasta cooks, prepare the ground beef and tomato sauce in a separate pan. Sauté the red onion in extra virgin olive oil, add the ground beef, then stir in the Marzano tomatoes and capers. Let everything simmer while the pasta finishes cooking.

Once the farfalle is al dente, toss it directly with the sauce so the pasta absorbs all those delicious flavors.

If you have a little extra time, let the sauce simmer longer. A slower simmer allows the tomatoes, beef, capers, and herbs to develop an even deeper flavor. You can also prepare the sauce ahead of time and refrigerate it until you’re ready to cook the pasta.

Mediterranean Cooking Made Simple

I grew up enjoying Mediterranean cooking, where a few quality ingredients can create something truly special. Extra virgin olive oil, ripe tomatoes, fresh herbs, onions, and simple seasonings are often all you need to build a flavorful meal.

That philosophy continues to inspire the way I cook at Sweet Basil. I love recipes that are uncomplicated but still feel special—food that brings people together around the table without requiring hours in the kitchen.

This Farfalle with Ground Beef, Marzano Tomatoes & Capers is exactly that kind of recipe: simple enough for a weeknight, delicious enough to make again and again.

And like many homemade pasta recipes, it’s easy to make your own. Add a little more capers if you love their briny flavor, adjust the herbs, or finish the pasta with freshly grated Parmesan and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil.
